Second Arkansas Medical Marijuana Ballot Initiative Language Approved

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has approved the language of a second ballot initiative to legalize medical marijuana in the state.

The initiative submitted by Arkansans for Compassionate Care was certified by McDaniel’s office Thursday, allowing the group to begin gathering the 62,507 signatures needed to place the proposed initiative on the November 2014 ballot.

The initiative would legalize medical  marijuana in Arkansas, allowing patients to grow their own or buy it from a dispensary.

McDaniel approved another medical marijuana initiative in August that would allow patients with a doctors’ approval to use marijuana and purchase it through state regulated dispensaries, but they would not be able to grow their own.

Arkansans for Compassionate Care was the organization behind 2012′s failed Issue 5, which would have legalized medical marijuana in Arkansas but was narrowly defeated at the polls by a 51% to 49% margin.
